Sarah’s 5 Steps for Turning Your New Year’s Resolution Into Your New Reality
As we embark on a new year I want to encourage all of you achieve your goals!
These useful tips can help you set a goal, stay on track and achieve the success you desire.
1. Think Long and Hard About What You Want to Improve On
-Set a realistic goal that you are ready to work to achieve.
- Ask yourself things like… Why do you want to make this change? How much commitment will it take? Are you truly ready to improve? What are the struggles involved? What are the benefits? Make your goal challenging but also make sure it is achievable.
2. Make It Real
-Now that you have thought long and hard; you know your goal, so… WRITE IT DOWN!
-When you write down your goal, it is no longer just a daydream, now it is real because it exists somewhere outside your mind.
-Ideas: Sign a promissory note to yourself, write down your goal and give it to a loved one or write your goal on a whiteboard at home. Now your goal is solid, it is more than just a thought in your head that you can forget about in a few days or weeks. You have started to give your dream some life!
3. Make a Plan
-Making a plan is giving yourself with the tools you need to be successful!
-To create your plan, start by asking yourself: How can you be best prepared to succeed? Who and or what will help you to reach your goal? What is your timeline for reaching your goal? How much time will you set aside to work on it each day, each week, or each month? What is your budget? What specific days or specific times will be used for your goal?
4. Make a Rescue Plan for Rough Days
-Things will not always be easy, so…. What will you do when the going gets tough!?!
-Tip: Be consistent with your time and effort; consistency creates disciple. You will never always be motivated, so, you have to learn to be disciplined.
-Find some ways to keep yourself motivated during the challenging periods.
-Ideas: Create a vision board for your new goal, find inspiring social media pages to follow, find motivational quotes you like, turn to a uplifting friend or find something that reminds you why you started (like a picture).
5. Reward Yourself Along the Way
-What is your final “big” reward for achieving your “big” goal?
-Set smaller goals along the way and reward yourself at each milestone.
-Idea: Keep your eye something nice you enjoy, like a concert or a new pair of shoes, then reward yourself to celebrate as you achieve a smaller goal.
-Repeat this cycle on the way to your larger goal!
