When you’re busy, it’s easy to think that dealing with that next thing on your to-do list is more important than relaxing.

But the reality is that it is harder to take care of things, or people in your life, if you don’t take care of yourself first. 

If you learn to cope with daily stresses in healthier ways, you will have more energy and patience to take on the day.

These quick and simple relaxation techniques can be done anywhere to help you relax, re-group and prepared to tackle your more challenging days with ease.


Chew Gum

Minty, fruity, or bubble-gum; the flavor doesn’t matter, but, a stick of gum is an astonishingly quick and easy way to beat stress. Just a few minutes of chewing can actually reduce anxiety.

Give Yourself a Hand Massage

Massages can be especially helpful for people who spend a lot of time typing on a keyboard. Hands in general can carry a lot of tension. If you really want to unwind, kick it up a notch and use some lotion.

Lie Your Head on a Cushion or Pillow

The try this visualization technique: lay your head down for a few minutes and imagine the pillow is a giant sponge sucking up all your worries.

Remember to Breathe

There is no simpler way to relax than to just breathe. Slow, deep breaths can help lower both your blood pressure and heart rate very quickly.

Count Backward

For those that find themselves agitated frequently this is a great technique. When things are bothering you, try slowly counting to 10 and then back from 10 again to calm down. It’s harder to freak out about something when you’re busy trying to remember what number comes before seven.

Brush Your Hair

This even works for the fellas! Pull out that hair brush, close your eyes and just brush softly for a few minutes. Ahhh. Much better.

Be Alone

Walk away! Just five minutes of alone time can help you collect your thoughts and clear your head.

Look Out the Window

When things get hectic, take a five-minute break to do nothing but go stare out the window; just let your eyes wander.

Find the Sun

On a sunny day, head outside for an easy way to perk up your frame of mind. Just a little sunlight can be a quick way and easy way to turn a bad day around.

Stretch

Standing up for a quick stretch; this can relieve muscle tension and help us relax during a stressful time.
